Useful information for your stay in Croatia.

112

By calling 112 you report an emergency, accident or a threat to human life, property, environment and cultural heritage. The 112 system operates as a single communication centre for all types of emergency situations. You can call the 112 number at any time of day or night, regardless of where you are in Croatia. 112 phone calls are free and you can make them through all mobile and fixed networks and from all telephones simply by dialling 112.

Call 112 for emergency medical assistance, help from fire fighters, police help, mountain rescue team assistance, other emergency services and protection and rescue officers, or if you notice: fire, leakage of hazardous substances, pollution of drinking water, streams, rivers or sea, or other phenomena that represent a danger to life and health of people or animals or endanger property, the environment and cultural heritage.

At sea

In case of an accident at sea or pollution call 9155 (National Centre for Search and Rescue at Sea).

Currency

The official currency in Croatia is Euro (€). Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, exchange offices, post offices, travel agencies, marinas, hotels and camping grounds. Credit card (Eurocard / Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners) are accepted by almost all hotels, marinas, restaurants, shops and ATM’s.

Recommendation: on small islands it is desirable to have cash because most stores and restaurants do not accept credit cards.

Travel documents

A valid passport or other identification document recognized by international agreement, and for citizens of some countries a personal identity card (document proving identity and citizenship of the bearer).
All the necessary information can be obtained at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

Medical care

Foreign visitors who are covered by health insurance in countries with which the Republic of Croatia has agreement on social security do not pay for emergency medical care during their stay in Croatia. Health care (including transport) is available for emergency cases to the same extent and according to regulations valid for Croatian citizens covered by social security, with identical participation in health care costs (participation).

Visitors who come from countries that do not have an agreement with Croatia or have an agreement which does not include the use of health care will be personally liable for all health care costs. Our recommendation is that all guests purchase travel health insurance in their home country.
